This is another of my favorite things on the internet.
I’ve been a runner for two years. It started at the beginning of a long road (no pun intended) of small lifestyle shifts I began making in 2011. Calorie counting became walking, walking became hiking, and soon after I was training for my first 5k race. I’ve been running semi-regularly ever since.
Matt Inman of The Oatmeal is also a runner, and he has written and illustrated a web comic that is a wonderful explanation behind why he punishes himself in this way. It’s funny and intimate, and also mostly lines up with my own reasons for running. Every now and then I fall off the wagon. Life is like that. We don’t always get to stick to our routines. The important thing is to get back to them as soon as possible. This comic always gives me the kick in the pants I need to get back on the road.
I’ve posted page 1 in its entirety here, but only to titillate you. For the full experience you need to head on over to The Oatmeal and give Mr. Inman the page hits and ad dollars that are his well-deserved due. I’ve even helpfully linked to page two after this panel.
Thank you, Matt Inman, for being crass, crude, and heartfelt all at once.
Good and proper interested? Fantastic! Read the rest of this comic here. And tell your friends.
